The shared interests and the increasingly close ties between Cyprus, Israel and the UK were highlighted during the first joint Conservative Friends of Cyprus and Conservative Friends of Israel meeting at the Houses of Parliament on Tuesday afternoon.

On Saturday 12 November the Conservative Friends of Cyprus concluded a successful Parliamentary visit to the island with a group of five MPs, a member of the House of Lords and a number of parliamentary assistants.

Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson has said that the prospect of a settlement of the Cyprus issue through the ongoing UN-facilitated negotiations between Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots is “a moment of optimism.”

The Conservative Friends of Cyprus wholeheartedly welcomes the Rt Hon Theresa May as Prime Minister and looks forward to working with her and the new government.

The Conservative Friends of Cyprus reception at the House of Commons on Monday evening, attended by a number of Conservative MPs, reaffirmed the strong ties between Cyprus and the UK.

On Wednesday the Conservative Friends of Cyprus hosted a very well attended Q & A session with Zac Goldsmith, the Conservative candidate for Mayor of London.

Between 11th and 14th November seven British MPs led by Parliamentary Chairman David Burrowes MP and Conservative Friends of Cyprus Chairman Jason Charalambous visited Cyprus to show solidarity and support for the settlement of the Cyprus Problem.

Foreign Secretary the Rt Hon Philip Hammond MP joined the Rt Hon Theresa Villiers MP, Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, and the Minister for Europe the Rt Hon David Lidington MP at the Conservative Friends of Cyprus’ reception at the Conservative Party Conference on Sunday evening in Manchester.

The Conservative Friends of Cyprus celebrated the launch of its Parliamentary Group on Monday 7 September with MPs from across the UK at a well-attended reception in the House of Commons.
